In his letter, Bishop Brom adds that every year in San Diego County 25,000 babies are denied the right to be born.
25,000 babies killed per year became 68 babies killed each day in abortion clinics in our community, while we go to work, take our kids to school and activities, shop, cook, eat, sleep, etc. Broken down per hour, that figure became almost 3 babies killed every hour while I live my life in beautiful Carlsbad. While being at daily Mass, 3 babies have lost their lives. When I'm done writing this message, 2 babies will be dead.
I often ask myself if I would be able to stand the sight of this violence. It hit me that the only reason I can accept it is because I don't see it. My day would be very different if I could see babies dying every 20 minutes. It would also be very different if I could see the pain of all the mothers coming to their senses, realizing that their babies no longer exist and that they have no power to undo what happened.
I'm sharing these thoughts with you not because we should feel guilty, but because they helped me realize that I have a responsibility to care for my neighbors and to show them that God loves all of us, even more when we suffer and feel overwhelmed by our problems. I also realized that I have a responsibility to stop something that is morally wrong.
We can't solve the problem of abortion counting on our own devices. Prayer is the most powerful weapon because with God all things are possible. God defeated death once and for all through the death and resurrection of Jesus. This is the confident assurance of our Christian faith!
